May 30, 2026, Maria Arkhipova filed a lawsuit against Meta (a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia)

As reported by the Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights, a formal complaint was previously filed against Meta (a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) for blocking human rights activist Maria Arkhipova's Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and effectively appropriating all of Maria Arkhipova's copyrighted content and intellectual property published on the social network over a 10-year period, from 2011 to 2021. The platform was offered a pre-trial settlement.
The Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights reported that in 2011, human rights activist Maria Arkhipova registered an account on the social network, where she actively published articles, photos, and videos on human rights activities. She also posted publications related to the development of space exploration. Legal relations arose between the author and the company under the user agreement.
In violation of the human rights activist's copyright, on September 4, 2021, the platform, without the consent of the copyright holder, unilaterally removed all articles and materials posted on the page, without providing the opportunity to save copies or access the deleted data.
The formal reason for blocking human rights activist Maria Arkhipova's page was a quote about the physical properties of an atom, unrelated to any controversial issues; the quote pertained solely to science.
Accounts created later were constantly censored and shadowbanned, with a deliberately reduced level of access.
During the pre-trial settlement, Maria Arkhipova and the platform failed to reach an agreement, the Association reported. Specifically, one of the human rights activist's proposals was to provide a plot of land or an island as compensation for refugees with the right to establish their own state, as this is the most pressing issue today: more than 100 million people worldwide are currently forced to flee their homes, but have yet to find a new home. This settlement option was rejected by the platform, the Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights stated.
According to the Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights, a lawsuit against the Meta platform (a company recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) has been filed and is awaiting final acceptance by the court.
The Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights will monitor the progress of the trial and report on all stages and outcomes of the hearings.
